Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission, has arrested Garba Musa Kwankwaso, a nephew to the New Nigeria People’s Party presidential candidate, Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso; the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government, the Chairman, Association of Local Governments of Nigeria, Kano State chapter, over their alleged involvement in a drug supply fraud to the 44 local government areas in the state.
The anti-graft agency had earlier arrested the Permanent Secretary of the State’s Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Mohammed Kabawa, over the alleged multi-billion Naira drug supply scam.
The agency later arrested others involved in the alleged deal.
The Commission slso arrested the Chairman of the state branch of ALGON, Abdullahi Bashir, who also doubles as Chairman of Tauroni Local Government Area Council.
The suspects were alleged to have connived to award the Contract to Novomed Pharmaceuticals for the supply of drugs to 38 LGAs in the state, violating public procurement laws.
The anti-graft Agency said preliminary investigations revealed that each of the 38 local government councils paid N9.1 million to Novomed for the procurement of drugs, which were not supplied.
Managing Director of Novomed, Musa Garba Kwankwaso, who is also nephew to Sen. Rabiu Kwankwaso was also arrested in connection with the alleged fraud.
All the suspects are already undergoing grilling with the commission’s investigation team.
The Agency’s Public Relations Officer l, Kabiru I. Kabiru, confirmed the arrests, disclosing that investigation was ongoing.
Kabiru said that the anti-graft Agency was working to unravel the full extent of the scam and bring those responsible to justice.
As of the time of filing this report, the Agency’s spokesman also confirmed that the suspects were in the commission’s custody.
