Premier League powerhouse, Chelsea, are interested in signing Alvaro Carreras from Real Madrid as a replacement for Marc Cucurella.
As per Mundo Deportivo, the Blues are keen on bringing the young Spaniard to Stamford Bridge.
Carreras, who has previously played for Real Madrid at the youth level, returned to his childhood club from Portuguese team Benfica last summer for a reported transfer fee of €50 million. In his inaugural season at the Santiago Bernabeu, he made 40 appearances across all competitions.
Real Madrid recently announced the acquisition of Cucurella from Chelsea for a reported fee of €60 million.
Following his outstanding performances during Spain’s victorious campaign in the 2026 World Cup tournament, he is expected to be the undisputed starter under the newly appointed Merengues manager, Jose Mourinho.
Among the candidates being considered by Chelsea to fill Cucurella’s position is Carreras, who is reportedly viewed as surplus to requirements under Mourinho. Xabi Alonso, who left Real Madrid in January and took over as manager of the London club last month, is thought to be a supporter of the 23-year-old.
According to Mundo Deportivo (via Tribal Football), Los Blancos are willing to assist their former manager by contemplating a transfer for Carreras. They are said to be seeking a fee of €45 million, which would cover a significant portion of the amount they paid for Cucurella, effectively turning it into a swap deal.
Currently, Chelsea’s left-back options include young players Denner (18), Jorrel Hato (20), and Caleb Wiley (21). Acquiring Carreras would bring valuable first-team experience and enhance the quality of the Blues’ defense.
