President Bola Ahmed Tinubu says the tax reforms embarked upon by his administration have come to stay.
Tinubu stated this on Monday night during the presidential media chat on NTA.
The tax reform bills, which are before the National Assembly, have generated controversies and met stiff resistance, especially from the Northern leaders, forcing the lawmakers to initiate consultation.
Tinubu in his address, however said the reforms might not be embraced by everybody, it had come to stay.
Tinubu said, “The tax reforms are here to stay. The reforms are pro-poor and they are to widen the tax net, so we can have more people paying.
“The hallmark of a good leader is the ability to do what you have to do at the time it ought to be done.”
But against the backdrop of the mounting opposition to the bills by some governors and senators, Tinubu said he was open to negotiations on the issue.
“Tax matters are subjects of debates and negotiations. I don’t mind cutting edges. I will,” he added.
