From Khalid Idris Doya, Bauchi

SESHEB Initiative for Sustainable Development has reaffirmed its commitment to empowering women and youth in Bauchi State, urging citizens to take proactive steps in transforming their lives amid growing demands that exceed the government’s capacity.

The State Coordinator of the Initiative, Hajiya Baheejah Mahmood Abdullahi, made the call during the inauguration of local government Coordinators yesterday in Bauchi, emphasised that SESHEB’s mission is to uplift, support, and transform the lives of the most vulnerable, particularly women, children, and marginalized groups.

“Our mandate is to provide enlightenment, advocacy, support services, access to interventions, and platforms for skills development and sustainable empowerment,” she said.

Hajiya Baheejah stressed the importance of women’s participation in politics, arguing that electing capable leaders is essential to achieving meaningful change.

“If good leaders are not elected, there will be no way to improve the lives of the people,” she stated, adding that women, who often bear the brunt of societal challenges, must rise to the occasion and become self-reliant.

“That is why this group is committed to finding ways for women to stand on their own feet and take control of their economic future,” she noted.

Baheejah Mahmood Abdullahi noted that SESHEB is focused on strengthening social protection, ensuring community security, boosting economic inclusion, and providing employment opportunities, especially for the women and youth.

Addressing the newly appointed Local Government Coordinators, she said, “Your appointment is not merely symbolic, it is a call to action. You are the heartbeat of this initiative in your respective LGAs. You are the voice of hope to the voiceless, the eyes that see hidden struggles, and the hands that carry relief to those in need.”

She urged them to work with unity, guided by compassion, integrity, and accountability, and to build strong partnerships while documenting local challenges and opportunities.

“This event marks a milestone, not only for us as an organisation but for the communities we are committed to serving. Today, we formally welcome 20 Local Government Coordinators, selfless individuals who have answered the call to serve as foot soldiers of change and development across Bauchi State.”

“To our Coordinators, you are the heart of this initiative. Through your dedication, we hope to reach those most in need, women, children, youth, and vulnerable groups and provide them with real opportunities for empowerment, protection, and sustainable development,” she concluded.
