… says ‘return to your former offices, risk consequences’
. Anyone attempting to arrest my supporters’ll confront me directly, Gov warns

Following the protests and violence rocking the 23 local government areas of Rivers State, Governor Siminalayi Fubara, on Tuesday, convened a high-level security council meeting with heads of security agencies.
The security meeting held at the Government House in Port Harcourt, the state capital, was in response to escalating political tension in the state following the expiration of the tenure of the local government chairmen in the state.
The closed-door session, it was learnt, dwelt on the recent outbreak of protests and violence at local government secretariats and the general security situation in the state.
Fubara, who addressed newsmen at the end of the meeting with the security chiefs, said the occasion was to devise effective strategies to prevent further invasions of local government offices.
He said one of the agenda of the meeting was how to ensure stability and continuity of governmental functions across the state.
Fubara, however, warned the immediate past council chairmen against planning to unlawfully return to their previous offices at the council secretariats.
According to him, “It is crucial that we respect the rule of law and the democratic transitions that uphold our governance structures.”
The Governor also raised the alarm over an alleged plot by his political enemies to go after his supporters, vowing to protect all residents of the state and their property.
“Anyone attempting to make such arrests will have to confront me directly,” Fubara warned.
