Umar Faruk, Gusau
Zamfara State All Progressives Congress has accused the Peoples Democratic Party supporters of hijacking the peaceful movement and giving it a political undertone to target APC and its leaders.
Addressing journalists in Gusau, party spokesman, Yusuf Idris said APC was disturbed by the dimension the nationwide supposed peaceful protest took in the state.
“This is because we observed that many PDP thugs were strategically deployed to attack, maim, and destroy personalities and properties of the APC”, he added.
According to him, the most disturbing was how on the first day of the protest, the already known PDP thugs aimed at the former governor Bello Matawalle’s personal residence for destruction but for the quick intervention of security personnel who blocked them.
The spokesman stated that thugs also attacked the residence of Senator Sahabi Yau at his hometown of Kaura Namoda, where they destroyed many valuables and damaged his Toyota Hilux in the name of peaceful protest.
He therefore, implored security agencies in the state to give members and all well-meaning citizens the desired protection to lives and property.
In his response, state acting PDP Chaiman, Mukhtar Lugga, dismissed the allegation, saying, “It’s not time to give the hunger protest a political tune”.
Lugga, who is also Chief of Staff to Governor Dauda Lawal, said there was no need to make such baseless allegation.
According to him, the PDP government never planned to attack anybody not to talk of the Minister.
He appreciated the efforts of the Federal Government under President Bola Tinubu to tackle the issue.
“The allegation was basely and unfounded, this was not time for politics but rather period of sober and support to President Tinubu to address the issue at right time”, he added.
According to him, the PDP government of Dauda Lawal was so appreciative of President Tinubu’s presidency and prayerful for successful handling of the protest.
