…says ‘they’re not curated for festival, I’ve had them for long’
Poster boy of the
2024 Ojude Oba Festival held in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, Mr Farooq Oreagba, has opened up on the tattoo on his body.
Some Nigerians, especially on social media, have continued to raise eyebrows about the propriety of displaying such tattoos in a cultural setting as the last Ojude Oba festival.
This is however inspite of the praises and appreciation Oreagba has since been receiving for his unrivaled elegance on the festival ground.
Oreagba, who is the Managing Director of NG Clearing and a former Member of the Derivatives Product Advisory Committee of the Nigerian Stock Exchange, while speaking on an Arise TV programme on Sunday, explained that the tattoos had some significant meaning for him.
He added that his tattoos were not purposely done for the Ojude Oba festival, as he had had them for some years now.
According to him, “People talk about my tattoos; I’ve had tats for years, and I’m very particular about them. I try to make sure that I don’t have a tattoo on my face and that my sleeves are down when I’m in corporate mode.
Farouk while showing his arms on the live television programme, said, “Here’s the famous tattoo. It says, ‘I live each day as if it were my last. So don’t judge me.’ That says, ‘Only God can judge me.'”
He however added that he has other tattoos for his kids, with some indicating the moment he had lots of friends.
“I’ve got ‘Ride or die.’ These were not curated; they’ve been there for years,” he added.
On the significance of the Ojude Oba festival, Oreagba said it’s a family tradition that had existed across generations and showcased their heritage and identity.
