Nigeria-born professionals of Ondo State origin, resident in the United States, at the weekend commended the state governor, Mr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, for personally rising to the occasion in the wake of hardship protests, by personally interfacing with residents across the state.
A select group of the state’s indigenes, at a get-together in Atlanta, Georgia, passed a vote of confidence in the governor, “for leaving the comfort of his office and home, to move round the state, with a view to seeking their understanding on the need to be peaceful and orderly”.
In a missive by the Director of Diaspora Matters for Lucky Aiyedatiwa Campaign Organisation Foot Soldiers Independent Council (LACO-FSIC), Hon. Dare Aliu, who attended the session, the Ondo indigenes expressed delight that Aiyedatiwa was able to douse tension through social interaction with the people.
“While we reckoned that the Nigerian government is undertaking some economic reforms that come with some pains, it is also within the people’s right to seek explanations on how government will quickly improve on their wellbeing; and we are proud of how Governor Aiyedatiwa took time out to talk and interact with the people,” Aliu applauded.
He quoted the gathering as commending the governor for clearing all arrears of salaries, paying palliative allowance to public workers and releasing over N2 billion in aid of workers in the non-formal sector.
“We are also impressed that the governor has earnestly commenced the distribution of food items and other consumables as palliative measures from the federal government, in concert with the state’s administration,” Aliu further commended.
He noted that without equivocation, Governor Aiyedatiwa had commenced the implementation of the new minimum wage, apart from the release of hanging leave bonuses to public workers.
According to him, the Ondo State indigenes in the Diaspora have endorsed the candidature of the governor for election into a four-year tenure, come November this year, and as such, he urged residents of the state to vote for him.
