…as allegations of alcohol, substance abuse, hypocrisy, betrayal of family make the rounds

The internal dispute tearing the family of the former governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, apart has deepened as his two eldest sons are now fighting over loyalty and political romance with the incumbent Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani.

The family dispute recently degenerated culminating in Bashir El-Rufai publicly attacking his elder brother, Bello El-Rufai, an incumbent member of the House of Representatives.

Bashir has accused Bello, who represents Kaduna North Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, of substance abuse, hypocrisy and betraying their family over the political disagreement between their father and his successor, Governor Uba Sani.

Bashir, in several social media posts, has made a series of harsh claims against his lawmaker brother.

In one of such posts, Bashir wrote, “I have a useless excuse for a brother, with his bony-ass face coated with an unknown white substance around his nostrils every night. That is your Member of the House of Representatives, representing a whole constituency, but he prefers alcohol and cocaine.”

In another post, Bashir reacted angrily to an alleged statement by Bello telling him to commit suicide.

“Wawa (Fool). Telling me to kill myself. The idiot should first slaughter his daughter, then I will believe he is real and serious,” Bashir stated.

Bashir further accused his elder of abandoning the family while romancing with and maintaining loyalty to Governor Sani.

Bashir wrote, “He was stuck with Uba Sani until he realised he was being dumped, then suddenly remembered family loyalty and moved to the African Democratic Congress (ADC). Where was he before then?”

He accused his elder brother of acting in his own political interest.

“He is purely serving his own interests. When people like us were countering the ‘towel governor,’ the bastard was nowhere to be found—hiding, eating, and wiping his mouth. This is the same idiot who asked me to pipe down on my criticisms,” Bashir further stated.

Their father, Nasir El-Rufai, handed over office to Governor Sani, who was once his close ally and political associate. But they fell apart after the incumbent Kaduna Governor said his administration inherited debts of $587 million, N85 billion and 115 contractual liabilities from his predecessor, El-Rufai.

Sani claimed that the financial burden left by El-Rufai had affected the state government’s ability to pay salaries and execute development projects.

The disagreement between El-Rufai and his successor, Governor Sani, has also caused division between the former governor’s two sons.

Bashir has consistently lambasted Governor Sani on social media, scoring his administration’s performance very low.

But Bello initially kept his distance from Bashir’s attacks while maintaining his support for Governor Sani, his acclaimed political mentor.

Bashir in his latest comments, has accused Bello of returning to the family after his relationship with Sani became strained.

He described his elder brother’s actions as politically motivated and a betrayal of the El-Rufai family.
