…directs affiliates, state councils, civil society allies to begin mobilising for strike
Nigeria Labour Congress has given the Federal Government until October 27, 2026, to meet its demands of reducing fuel price and reviewing minimum wage or risk nationwide shutdown of economic activities.

NLC’s Acting General Secretary, Benson Upah, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday following a meeting with the Minister of Labour.
Specifically, NLC’s demands include a reduction in fuel prices from as high as N1,429 per litre and an upward review of the minimum wage from the current N70,000.
Already, labour has directed its affiliates, state councils and civil society allies to begin mobilising for possible nationwide action from October 27.
NLC expressed dissatisfaction that no concrete commitments were secured from the Federal Government during the meeting, leaving all its demands unresolved.
“The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, has given the Federal Government until October 27 to address workers’ demands, as failure will lead to a nationwide strike,” the union said in a statement.
