A splinter group in Edo State All Progressives Congress has raised the alarm over the plan by the party to blame all security breaches on the state security outfit, the Edo Security Network (ESN).
Party sources alleged that at a meeting by the leadership of APC in the state resolved to push and attribute all security lapses on the ESN.
The source who didn’t want his name in print, said the agreement to rope in ESN was reached at a meeting in which the governorship candidate, Monday Okpehbolo, was in attendance, alongside the party chairman and secretary with a former party governorship candidate.
“By casting the security network in a negative light, the party hopes to influence public opinion and gain an electoral advantage,” the source said.
The source further noted that the APC’s decision to pursue this action goes to show their fear of losing the state governorship election.
The intention of those behind the blame game was to create a narrative that suggests the ESN outfit as acting in favour of other political interests, thereby fostering an atmosphere of distrust and controversy.
“The timing of this strategy shows that there is political tension in the APC camp as the election date approaches,” he said.
It is nothing but a coordinated effort to publicly portray the security agencies as being biased and oppressive, the source further explained.
