Following the outbreak of Cholera in some states, an Educationist, Mrs Maureen Ola-Williams has warned parents and guardians to desist from buying road side food and observe safety measures provided by the government to protect their children from contracting the disease.
Ola-Williams, who is the Head of Lyceum Schools, Abeokuta, Ogun State, equally charged parents and guardians to always encourage the children to always drink safe and clean water as well as wash their hands with soap and water before and after using the toilets.
She stated this while addressing newsmen at the 12th Anniversary and Graduation Ceremony of Lyceum Schools, with the theme” Global Reach Within Local Realities” held at Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, OOPL, Abeokuta.
Ola-Williams who admonished the parents and guardians to ensure their children eat home cooked meals and discourage them from buying junks at the road side, urged them to follow the laid down rules and regulations to fighting Cholera outbreak.
She maintained that her schools was doing everything possible to prevent children from contacting the disease by following safety measures right from the teachers, securities and other workers as well as asking parents and guardians to wash and disinfect their hands before entering the schools.
The Educationist said “We told their parents to prepare them home made food, the food they eat should be clean and we discourage them from buying food from the street because some of these dieseasses and infection they got it more from food on the way, snacks that you buy on the way side, parents should watch what they give to their kids, don’t espoused your kids to different junks”
“They have to sanitize themselves, they have to monitor whatever they play with and we encouraged them to clean up and washed up after using the toilet, wash up before you eat and after eat, so many rules and regulations.”
“We play our role on so many ways, we need to enforce it starting from the gate, the teachers and the security men, and they need to disinfect their hands. We watch you parents and ensure they sanitize your hands before you come to visit our children” She added
The Chairman of the Schools, Dr. Yinka Ola-Williams, admonished the parents and guardians to embrace safety measures in protecting their children from Cholera
He also charged the graduating children to read and work hard for more success in their academic endeavours and avoid joining bad gangs that would put their lives in danger and stop them from achieving their dreams in the future
