An explosion has occurred at theZungeru Hydro Electricity Plant in Niger State, leaving many workers seriously injured. The explosion at the N1.3 billion worth power plant reportedly occurred in the early hours of Monday. It was learnt that a Chinese engineer, security personnel, and several workers were injured while some installations were destroyed. The Chinese engineer was said to be conducting a routine check when the explosion occurred. Those injured, it was gathered, were taken to the Minna General Hospital. Ben Ogbemudia, Abuja A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has dismissed a suit filed by Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), against the Federal Government and Department of State Services (DSS). In a judgment delivered on Monday, Justice James Omotosho, the presiding judge, held that Kanu failed to provide credible evidence to back the allegation of violation of his fundamental rights by the defendants. Omotosho said claims that operatives of the DSS denied Kanu access to his lawyers, and that the officials eavesdropped on his conversations with his lawyers, could not be established.

A Nigerian Air Force helicopter has crashed in Kaduna in Tami village, Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State in the early hours Monday. Villagers said the crash occurred at about 5:00 am, resulting in pandemonium among residents of the community. Ekiti State Government has opposed the proposed plan by the Transmission Company of Nigeria and Benin Electricity Distribution Company to put the state in blackout for nine hours daily for the two months effective from July 1.
