We welcome you back into Labour Party, Gov Otti tells defectors, others

Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Otti, has urged those who left the Labour Party for one reason or the other, to return.

Governor Otti, represented by the Deputy Governor, Ikechukwu Lekwachi Emetu, stated this at a one-day high-level strategic multi-level stakeholders summit themed, “Reuniting the Labour Party Family: consolidating strength for sustainable political impact” held at the party’s national Secretariat in Abuja on Wednesday.

The meeting was held in collaboration with the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress.

The Governor noted that under the leadership in Abia, the state has been able to demonstrate that the Labour Party is not just an electoral platform, but a vehicle for purpose, governance, accountability and people-centred development.

He noted that progress being made by infrastructural renewal, institutional reforms, physical discipline and service delivery stands as evidence that the party is capable of translating this very vision to the national level.

“However, we must also acknowledge that sustainable political success requires internal harmony. Reuniting the party is about building trust, strengthening structures, deepening communication and ensuring that every stakeholder, from ward level to the national leadership, feels valued and heard.

“On the road to 2027, we must begin now to consolidate on our structures, strengthen grassroots mobilization and membership revalidation, build strategic alliances with progressive minds who share our vision, invest in youth and women participation as drivers of electoral success, promote internal democracy, transparency and discipline, communicate our achievements effectively and consistently to the people.

“We must know and remember that Abia State is a model for this very nation to follow and the Labour Party is the driver of this very progress. We must remember that we are not alone,” he said.

The governor said the summit must therefore produce actionable resolutions, not just pitches.

“Let us leave here with a clear strategy, defined responsibility, and measurable timelines. Let us also commit to resolving internal misunderstandings through dialogue and not division,” he said.

“At this very juncture, we are welcoming our brothers who lost during the litigations to join the Labour Party and let’s build from the scratch.

“The Labour Party was built on principles of equity, justice, productivity, and social inclusion. If we remain faithful to these principles, no realignment or opposition strategy can diminish our impact.”
