We have no political party now, Bauchi Gov’s son tells father’s loyalists, associates

Son of the Bauchi State Governor, Shamsudeen Mohammed, has confirmed that his father is currently without a political party, urging supporters to remain calm amid the development.

Shamsudeen disclosed this in a Hausa post shared on his Facebook page on Sunday, where he addressed loyalists and political associates of his father.

According to him, “I would like to draw the attention of our people in ‘Kaurasiyya Aqida’ and those who have made ‘Kauran Bauchi’ their political direction, to understand that at the moment we do not have a political party. However, by God’s will, our leader will find us a platform where we can present candidates.”

The Bauchi governor’s son stressed the need for patience and unity among supporters, noting that political power ultimately comes from God.

“We should bear in mind that it is God who grants power to whom He wills. In this political process, there are primary elections or consensus arrangements. Let us put our trust in God, knowing that he is the one who gives authority and He does not make mistakes,” he said.

He further urged party loyalists to rally behind any candidate that emerges through due process, whether by consensus or primaries.

“Among all our aspirants, whoever is chosen, whether through consensus or through open primaries, we should unite, pledge our support, and stand firmly behind them until they achieve victory,” he added.

But Shamsudeen warned against divisive tendencies within the political camp, cautioning that withdrawing support when preferred candidates are not selected could weaken the group.

“If we continue with the approach of ‘Matasa Imani’, that is, if ‘our own people’ are not selected, and we withdraw support, then total failure will face all of us. That is why I am cautioning us to be careful of such divisive politics within a common cause,” he said.

He concluded by calling for collective support for whoever emerges as a candidate, praying for divine guidance in the political process.

“May God grant success to the one destined for it. May He choose the best person for every position, whether through primaries or consensus, Insha Allah,” he stated.

Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State had declared that he is now a “freelance politician” with no direct ties to any political party.

Mohammed made the disclosure on Thursday while hosting a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, Peter Obi, alongside stakeholders from the South-East.

The governor said his meeting with Obi and his delegation centred on the need to unify the country, stressing that discussions were geared towards national interest rather than partisan alignment.

But he declined to give details of any political realignment, noting that both the Peoples Democratic Party and the ADC were facing uncertainties.

“Neither PDP nor ADC is standing alone. I am a freelance politician now, and my party is also in limbo. We are looking up to the judiciary. Certainly, we are all in opposition, and that is why I say this is a political discussion. We will not disclose everything we have discussed in terms of the ‘I’s and ‘t’s we have crossed,” he said.

Mohammed added that ongoing engagements were focused on realignment, cooperation, and the search for a viable political platform ahead of future elections.

“We cannot operate without a platform. At the end of the day, the current political situation may even help unify us and strengthen our chances of winning elections,” he added.
