We don’t want to witness another round of killings, violence across our kingdom – Okordia people

From Seyi Tayese, Yenagoa

The people of Okordia Kingdom have reiterated that Okordia as a people can never be shaken by mere photoshop presentation of any form of decorated stick to any citizen of the kingdom intended
to cause mayhem and disaffection among them.

The community therefore said they
need to intimate the Commissioner  for Local Government and Chief-taincy Affairs, Chief Thompson Amule and the Government of Bayelsa State that they do not want to witness another round of killings and destruction of lives and properties across the kingdom.

According to a statement issued and signed by His Royal Majesty Richard Seiba, Ibedaowei of Okordia Kingdom, Reward Zigha Secretary to Okordia Kingdom Council of Chiefs and other Highnesses and made available to our correspondent via email warned the commissioner that  disputes rising among the people have never been settled by any external strange untraditional institutions.

The statement read in part; “the elderly are always in charge
of settling such disputes that would arise. Where such disputes escalate beyond the control of any Community in the Kingdom, the matter would be referred to as Clan Head “The King”. The people of Okordia have been long known for their peaceful disposition until
the arrival of this obnoxious law unknown to her people that had earlier cost destruction of lives
and property.

“This law is like the case of the paradoxical movie “The Gods Must Be Crazy.” Let the bottle be returned to its owner because the people of Okordia Kingdom cannot afford to witness another era of blood shed to desecrate their sacred land. We cannot accept any imposed leadership in our land.

“Let it be noted by the public, any institution or group of persons that the Bayelsa State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Chief Thompson Amule is not only planting more seeds of discord amongst the most
peaceful citizens of Okordia land, but drumming _akolo_ of WAR in Okordia land; which *WILL BE STRONGLY RESISTED* whenever such a case arises.

“We therefore, strongly condemn the outcome of the movie acted in the Honourable Commissioner’s personal office that is anti-Okordia progress, instead
of the State Traditional Rulers Council Secretariat Complex

The statement further said on  Friday 16th October, 2026, the people of Okordia Kingdom were thrown into another shocking state with the news of Commissioner for Local Government and Chief-taincy Affairs, Chief Thompson Amule who attempted to upturn the
ancestral custom and traditional practice of their chieftaincy stools with an alleged kangaroo presentation of a Staff of Office to one Okoma Akube, Solomon
Wenibo, Herbertson and Owolo representing the Agbobiri, Akumoni, Kalaba, Ikarama and FreeTown communities respectively.

According to the statement, while  the people of Okordia Kingdom remain resolute and firm in maintaining their heritage valued systems with a peaceful disposition, “we CANNOT be cowed and perturbed to be moved by the mere radio announcement rising from the purported movie acted in the personal office of the Commissioner rather than the
State Traditional Rulers Council Secretariat or the various
communities’ town squares.

“We use this medium to draw the attention of the Honourable Commissioner that
we are not ignorant of the fact that one of the staff to the Commissioner, ThankGod Mateikumo whose biological father, Jetty Mateikumo is claiming to
be a lifetime Chief too, has been receiving illegal benefits through the ministry.

“It is shameful for the Commissioner who failed to investigate that the said Jetty
Mateikumo has never in his life contested for any election, nor the community nominating him to be a Paramount Ruler in any part of Okordia Kingdom. He
was only an acting caretaker Chairman as a result of the gruesome murder scenario of the then Paramount Ruler of Kalaba Community.

” Just because his son is a staff of the ministry, the Commissioner is intentionally and ignorantly dancing to the rhythm of jazz music he knows little or nothing about the drummer. We are highly convinced that the said Staff of Office was desperately bought at the Swali market square and acted like one of those Nollywood movies as a camouflage.

“It would interest the Honourable Commissioner to know that while serving as the Paramount Ruler of Agbobiri then, Chief Okoma Akube allegedly defrauded Agbobiri Community of the following Items: 32 solar panels, 32 solar batteries,
computer set, 22 ceiling fans, 1 generator, 4 years of community guest house rentage. In line with the above, his successor, Chief Patrick Fakidouma petitioned him on a case of alleged criminal matter before the State CID. Chief Fakidouma, who accused Chief Okoma Akube of allegedly stealing both money and property
belonging to the community, earlier received and witnessed a peaceful smooth handover of leadership from Chief Okoma Akube. At the moment, the said Chief
Okoma Akube, who has been at large is on the wanted list of the Nigeria Police Force, Bayelsa State Command.

“We wish to educate the Honourable Commissioner who has little or no knowledge
about the cultural milieu and origins of a sect to know more about the way of life of Okordia peoples.
Whereas the traditional stool of the Clan Head of Okordia Kingdom, known as The “Ibedaowei of Akita” is elective at the death record of the stool and crown bearer; the stool of the various communities known as “The Amananaowei” are also elective positions in every season of four years as the case may be.

This is a generational practice experienced by the genealogy of the historical anthology,
bearing in mind that the people of Okordia Kingdom migrated from the ancient kingdom of Nembe. Like the Clan Head’s stool which is rotational from community to community, the case of the Paramount Rulers of the various
Communities rotates from one compound to the other, according to the laid down for peaceful co-existence”.
