Liverpool legend, Jamie Carragher, has identified midfielder Declan Rice as the player who saved Arsenal’s season under manager Mikel Arteta.
The former England defender believes the tactical decision by Arteta to move Rice a little bit deeper in recent matches has had a huge influence and breathed new life into the Gunners after they took control of the Premier League title race and qualified for the Champions League final.
Arsenal have been stumbling in recent weeks as they fell short in both the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup competitions and later suffered a defeat to Manchester City amid the Premier League title race.
However, the Premier League North London club has now been doing well in their last few games over the past week.
“Even though Arsenal find themselves where they’re in the Champions League and the Premier League because of what they’ve done over 10 months, they were definitely wobbling,” Carragher said on CBS Sports.
“In the last week, they have sorted themselves out, and I think the decision to move Declan Rice a little bit deeper has had a huge influence.
“I think that little tactical shift with Declan Rice has had a huge impact, and they are now two games away from winning the Premier League and Champions League double.”
