Liverpool manager Arne Slot has explained why he didn’t play Luis Díaz and Darwin Núñez in his side’s pre-season friendly 4-2 defeat against AC Milan on Saturday.
Both Díaz and Núñez have been heavily linked with a move away from Liverpool this summer.
The two players were not included in the squad that played against AC Milan.
Recall that goals from Rafael Leão, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, and Noah Okafor (2) gave Milan the victory against the Premier League champions.
Explaining his decision not to play both attackers against Milan, Slot said after the game, “In Lucho’s situation, it was because of speculation about his future, yeah. There are a lot of rumours around him lately, and I cannot go into that. He’s training really well with us, but we have decided, for now, not to play him yet.
“In Darwin’s situation, he has also trained really well and played a few good games for us already this season. But he was injured, so we didn’t take the risk. It was a little bit the same with Wata; he trained with us for the whole week, but we didn’t want to take a risk with him as well.”
The friendly match was played at the Kai Tak Sports Park in Hong Kong.
Liverpool’s next match is against Yokohama FM on Wednesday.
