National Association of Seadogs, otherwise known as Pyrates Confraternity, has partnered Eye Foundation Hospital to provide free eye medical services for 300 less- privileged persons in Ota communities of Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State.
The one-day free medical outreach supported by Blizzard Deck was held at the Palace of Olota of Ota, Oba Abdulkabir Obalanlege, at the weekend, lasted for five hours covering less privileged mostly elderly people suffering from eye ailments including cataract, presbyopia, Glucoma and other allergies.
Speaking, the Capoon, Ash Montana Deck, Abeokuta, Ganiyu Omitogun, said that 300 less privileged, including elderly people were targeted for medical service to cure their eye in various ailments for better vision in their old age.
Omitogun, who said that the medical outreach was part of the association’s objective programmes, said that the Confraternity had paid for surgeries of three patients suffering from cataract and are planning to cover additional eight person who suffers the same fate of eye ailment, making the total number 10 beneficiaries.
He said ” We don’t know these people from anywhere, we gathered about 300 people and we are able to identify three people that need the cataract surgeries and that has been paid for and we are planning to do about 10. We are happy that people are benefiting free glasses and eyes.”
“These people are aged and what is the major disease of people that are age is eye. Some of them are complaining that they have gone to the hospital but were asked to pay huge amount of money which they cannot afford. Our mission is for the less privilege to benefit from this programme.” he noted.
Also speaking, Eye Foundation Hospital Program Manager, Emmanuel Ogudare, said that the clinic partnered with the association to provide elderly who can’t visit the hospital for eye ailments due to lack of money the opportunity to get free medical eye services with zero medical bills.
Ogundare mentioned the patients were suffering from eye ailments including cataract, inflammation, Glucoma among allergies, stressing that most of their patients who could not read the Bible and Quaran or read prints on their phones or laptops were given eye glasses while those suffering from dry eyes were given eye drops.
He said ” By this reason of this partnership we have been able to provide free basic eye care services free eye drops, free glasses and we will be doing free cataract surgeries. From few people we have seen, people struggling with presbyopia – struggling to catch up tiny print, people struggling to read the Bible or Quaran, unle to read this from their phones or laptops.
“A lot of peple that open up are tailor who are struggling to put thread inside the needle, eye glasses will solve this problem and Some have different kind of allergies, some have dry eyes, and inflammation eye drops that will save the purposes have been given to them.” he added.
One of the beneficiaries, Moruf Aiyedogbon, who is suffering for Cataract, thanked the Seadogs and Eye Foundation for their support to restore his sight.
