From Khalid Idris Doya, Bauchi
Reports that Senator Shehu Buba Umar, representing Bauchi South in the National Assembly, was booed during a condolence visit to Toro Local Government Area of the state have been declared as baseless and false.
Speaking with journalists on Sunday on the matter, Ibrahim Ori, an aide to Senator Buba, who was also on his delegation during the visit, dismissed the reports circulating in the media as “fabrications not grounded on fact.”
“Our attention was drawn to a media publication alleging that Senator Shehu Buba was booed during a condolence visit to Toro. This is completely untrue,” Ori stated.
“The writer used the word ‘alleged’ repeatedly throughout the story, which suggests a lack of certainty and professionalism. If a journalist is not 100 percent sure of their information, it is more ethical to drop the story entirely,” Ori added.
According to Ori, the Senator’s visit to Toro was peaceful and well-received.
He added that during the visit, Senator Buba donated a total sum of N65million to support various community programmes. The breakdown of donations includes N50million for the construction of a mosque, N5million for the family of the deceased, N5million for elders, and N5million for youths.
“There was no incident of booing during or after the Senator’s visit. If anything happened after he left, it should not be attributed to him,” Ori clarified.
He emphasised the importance of journalistic integrity, particularly during times of national insecurity and economic hardship.
“Journalists have a critical role in nation-building. Their work should be guided by integrity, truth and objectivity. Responsible reporting and constructive storytelling are essential to social cohesion and national development, not sensationalism or politically motivated falsehoods,” he said.
Ori reiterated that Senator Shehu Buba remained committed to transparency, due process and providing quality representation for the people of Bauchi South and the entire Bauchi State.
