Nigerians in public hospitals across the country have been left stranded.
NARD Secretary-General, Dr Oluwasola Odunbaku, announced the downing of tools by the doctors in a statement via the association’s X account.
The strike follows NARD’s online National Executive Council’s decision to proceed after its ultimatum to the Federal Government to meet its demands expired on September 10, 2025.
The statement read, “The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors hereby notifies all members that the five-day warning strike has commenced today, in line with our NEC decision.
“We urge every member across all centres to comply fully with this directive. This action is aimed at pressing home our demands for better welfare, improved working conditions, and a stronger healthcare system for Nigerians.”
NARD President, Dr Tope Osundare, said members embarked on strike over poor working conditions, power shortages, downgrading of certificates, poor remuneration, and other issues.
The action comes amid the ongoing seven-day strike by the Association of Resident Doctors, Federal Capital Territory Administration, which began on Monday.
