…as litigants voluntarily withdraw suits, pledge to work for APC flagbearer’s victory

As the campaigns for the 2027 governorship election kick off, litigants to four major court cases instituted against the Ogun State All Progressives Congress gubernatorial candidate, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly called Yayi, have wholly withdrawn and discontinued their cases voluntarily.

Although no reasons were given for the litigants’ withdrawal of the cases against Senator Adeola’s emergence as Ogun APC governorship candidate, it was gathered that the litigants were convinced of the merit of the lawmaker’s gubernatorial candidacy and have decided to discontinue their cases and rather work for his eventual victory in the forthcoming February 2027 general elections.

A statement issued by the Senator Adeola’s Media Adviser, High Chief Kayode Odunaro, listed the withdrawn court cases to include: “Suit No. FHC/AB/CS/87/26 instituted by Professor Awolola Awoniyi pursuant of Freedom of Information Act 2011 against the Senator, Independent Electoral Commission, INEC, All Progressives Congress, the Guardian Newspapers Limited and the Inspector General of Police and Suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/844/26 instituted by Arc. Akerele Abiodun John, Ogun State Chairman of Booth Party; Mr. Adeyemi Solomon Oluwaseyifunmi, Ogun State Chairman of Young Progressive Party, YPP; Mr. Ola Olamide Emmanuel of Action Democratic Party, ADP; Mr. Ayinde Oluwayemisi Abiola, a member of ADP and Mr. Fesomade Gbadebo, a member of Labour Party, LP, against the Senator, INEC and APC.

“The other discontinued cases are Suit Nos. FHC/ABJ/CS/989/2026 and FHC/ABJ/CS/884/26 instituted by some of the above party officials and members and others, including Dr. Olufemi Soluade, Ogun State Chairman of African Democratic Party, ADP; Mr. Oluwabukola Soyoye Temitope, a member of Labour Party, LP and one Ogunremi Abiodu Oluwaseun against the APC candidate, INEC, the Guardian Newspapers Limited and Inspector General of Police.”

It added, “The case of Professor Awoniyi was discontinued on August 24, 2026 while the other cases were dropped on September 7th, 2026 in open court and the various defendants and their counsels duly informed through “Notices of Discontinuance” of the state of the matters.”

According to the statement, however, “Senator Adeola has since welcomed the development and stated that he is more than ever focused on his delivery of dividends of democracy for Ogun State people and continues his mobilisation for full campaign across the state in the days ahead for the general elections.”
