A former Chairman of Gusau Local Government council in Zamfara State, Engr. Babangida Abdullahi has welcomed the recent Supreme Court judgement granting autonomy to the local government.
In a interview with newsmen in Gusau, Zamfara State capital, Abdullahi said granting autonomy to local government would solve multiple problems facing the country.
According to him, if the autonomy succeeded would address the issue of insecurity and job creation in the country.
“Non functional local government attributed to some many problems in the country ranging from insecurity to unemployment amongst the teeming youths,” he added.
He said with the autonomy at the local government, council chairman can initiate quite number of developmental projects cut across health sector, water supply and educational sector.
“Going by history local government councils have been construting rural hospitals, rural water scheme and blocks of classrooms with the funds at their disposal”, The Ex-Chairman Stated.
He explained that, the councils could take care of the security problem facing their communities through supply of necessary requirements to security agents instantly.
“The autonomy would bring back life to.local government councils, which hitherto the Secretariat were deserted by for not functioning properly.
