Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has released the Osun State Government accounts frozen a few days to the August 15 governorship election in the state.
EFCC had claimed to have taken the action “to prevent the alleged diversion of public funds”.

The two accounts, domiciled with First Bank of Nigeria and Zenith Bank, are now said to be functioning again.
Recall that on August 5, the anti-graft agency had placed a “Post No Debit” on the state government accounts, claiming that it had been investigating the government since March 2026 over the alleged fraudulent handling of about N11bn in Ecology Funds, Intervention Funds and allocations from the Federation Account Allocation Committee.
The action of the EFCC attracted widespread criticisms as many Nigerians considered it a political move to weaken Governor Ademola Adeleke before the just-concluded election.
President Bola Tinubu also described the EFCC’s action as embarrassing, directing the commission to defreeze the account.
Adeleke had, after his declaration as the winner of the election, directed the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in the state, Oluwole Jimi-Bada, (SAN), to withdraw the suit filed against the EFCC.
But Presidency sources confirmed that the Osun State accounts have since been defrozen as the EFCC couldn’t have disobeyed Tinubu’s orders.
Some Osun State Government officials, who pleaded anonymity, also confirmed that the lien had been lifted.
