Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, on Tuesday, defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress from the Peoples Democratic Party.
He announced his defection at a stakeholders meeting held at the Government House in Port Harcourt on Tuesday.

The development comes amid renewed political tension in the oil-rich Niger Delta state
between Governor Fubara and the state House of Assembly members, who had also recently defected to the ruling APC.
Recall that on Monday, President Bola Tinubu
held closed-door discussions with the Rivers Governor in Aso Rock shortly after a meeting with Governors of six APC- controlled state who visited him in his office.
Fubara’s meeting with the President came against the backdrop of escalating political friction in Rivers State and the uncertainties surrounding Fubara’s standing within the PDP.
However, with this latest development, Fubara has joined a host of his colleagues who have dumped the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party and defected to the ruling APC this year.
