A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has granted the Federal Government an order of interim forfeiture of property valued at N11,140,000,000.00 linked to the embattled former Central Bank of Nigeria governor, Godwin Emefiele. On Wednesday, the presiding judge, Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke, made the order following a motion filed and argued by the counsel for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Rotimi Oyedepo (SAN). Oyedepo told the court that Emefiele was suspected to have purchased the choice property, mostly located in highbrow parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, by proxy, with the proceeds of fraud. Nigerian Deposit Insurance Corporation, on Wednesday, assured depositors of Heritage Bank that they’ll be refunded their money with the liquidated Heritage Bank. To this end, NDIC said it has commenced the process of payment to all depositors of the bank. NDIC Managing Director, Bello Hassan, gave this assurance at a press briefing in Abuja. Hassan, who outlined the processes of repayment, insisted that NDIC would not wait till 30 days as stipulated by law, but would settle customers within one week. No fewer than 30 state governments of the federation spent N986.64bn on recurrent expenditures, including refreshments, sitting allowances, travelling, utilities, etc., in the first three months of 2024, The PUNCH reports. One person was reportedly killed, six seriously injured and 30 trapped when a mine site collapsed in Galkogo village of Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State. A firm, African Minerals and Logistics Limited, is said to be operating the site. The Manager of the site, Alhaji Ibrahim Ishaku, was also said to be among the workers trapped in the mine pit.
