… accuses Peter Obi of anti-party activities, romancing with ADC

. Appoints Arabambi as Acting National Vice Chairman, Southwest

Seun Shotunde, Abeokuta

National Leadership of Labour Party has accused the All Progressive Congress of laying the foundation of the current insecurity plaguing the country in their alleged desperate bid to oust the administration of then President Goodluck Jonathan and end the reign of the Peoples Democratic Party.

LP also accused its 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi of engaging in anti-party activities following his romance with the leadership of the African Democratic Congress(ADC).

The party further insisted that it would not form any alliance with the ADC for the purpose of the 2027 general elections.

LP’s Deputy National Chairman, Dr. Ayo Olorunfemi, who stated this on Monday at a press conference held at the Nigeria Union of Journalists(NUJ) Secretariat, Iwe Irohin in Abeokuta, the state capital, blamed the APC-led government for the current spate of insecurity in the country.

He was reacting to the recent abduction of 38 worshippers at Christ Apostolic Church in Eruku, Kwara State, on November 18, 2025, during a church service, when gunmen attacked the church, killed three people and took the rest of the worshippers captive.

Olorunfemi, who also made reference to the kidnapping of over 300 children from a Catholic school in Niger State by gunmen with 51 of them and the 38 worshippers later rescued, lamented the growing insecurity in the country.

He lambasted the Tinubu-led administration of fighting insecurity in the country with kid gloves, without arresting a single kidnapper or bandit.

Olorunfemi also decried the skyrocketing inflation affecting cost of food items, services and living conditions in the country, insisting that only LP could save Nigerians from the shackles of economic hardships and insecurity.

He said, “A level of hopelessly has risen in Nigeria that nobody could imagine. Is it the prices of commodities in the market, is it security? There is nothing like security of lives and property again. One of the most important functions of government is to make sure they protect lives and property, but today property is not protected, lives are not protected.

“Gone are the days when you travel through the road but today the roads are bad and you could be kidnapped or killed; even now, they can come to your door, break your door and take you away from your house. People can no longer worship in their churches and mosques You heard what happened in Eruku, people were worshipping God when bandits came in, killed two people and kidnapped 38 people and took them into the forest.

“They are the group of kidnappers whose faces are shown and nobody has arrested them. Police said they don’t know them, how were they released? Somebody said they invited them for peace talks; so they have started inviting kidnappers and nobody is investigating anything and we have not heard about their arrest.

“So, we don’t need anybody to tell us that the government has hands in all these iniquities that is going on in Nigeria since 2011 to date. We all know how APC came together and brought on bandits from Syria during the time of Jonathan to come of fight war in Nigeria, but unfortunately somebody who was president at that time said his ambition does want the blood of Nigerians and he conceded victory.” he noted.

The Deputy National Chairman, while speaking on Obi’s alignment with ADC, emphasised that as long as Obi and other politicians, who contested and won or lost on the platform of the party, engage in any political activities with ADC or other political parties, they would be deemed as engaging in anti-party activities. He said if they repent, they would be reintegrated back into the party under certain conditions.

“As long as Peter Obi is doing anything with ADC, we won’t regard him as a member of the party. So he is not a Labour Party member if he aligns with ADC and we will regard such as anti-party.

“For those who believe that admitting them into the party to come and run as the candidates of the party means to them that they become the owner of the party, when they arise and wake up from their dreams, maybe they will do the right thing by coming back to the house, apologise and their requests will be accommodated.

“But if they want to continue to live their illusions, if they want to continue in their dreams that a candidate has a place in the constitution, we will to look at them while we move on. As far as Labour Party is concerned, we have moved on and we will be pursuing electoral victory in 2027,” he stressed.

Olorunfemi said that the party had already begun the process of reconciling aggrieved members or warring groups ahead its national convention scheduled for December 2, 2025, calling on private individuals interested in contesting for any political office under the LP to join the LG and the State’s convention on December 4 and 6, 2025, and indicate interest.

He also announced the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Dr. Abayomi Arabambi as the Acting National Vice Chairman for Southwest region of the party, stressing that the party was ready to take over the reigns of power from APC at the federal, state and council level come 2027 general elections.

He added, “We feel your pains and levels of hopelessness. The level of hopelessly has gone so high that here in Labour party we regretted any skirmishes in Labour Party and we we are are using this opportunity to apologize to to Nigerians that inspite of our performance in the 2023 elections and the elected leaders of party did not pursue vigorously the least of our mandate.”

“So we have every reason to apologize to millions of Nigerians to poor Nigerians who came out in their millions to vote for us in 2023 and to further assure Nigerians that in 2027 we shall not disappoint them. We will protect their votes. We will vote, you will vote, Nigerians will vote and we shall protect our votes.

“First, we decided to close ranks, we have closed ranks of all the warring factions, the genuine ones, and you will agree with me that some people are preparing to be sleeping and waking them up is a waste of time. I am very happy to announce with you that we have been able reconcile all those warning factions, particularly the Alhaji Lamidi Apapa-led faction of the party and the processes of reintegrating them into the party has begun.

“One of the steps that has been taken so far is that ratification of Dr. Abayomi Arabambi as the Acting National Vice Chairman of the party for Southwest and that recommendation is going to NWC for onward transmission to NEC. Now, he will begin to act as the National Vice Chairman for Labour Party. Other problems in terms of accommodations for all the warring factions will all be dealt with before the NEC meeting.” The Deputy National Chairman added.

Arabambi, however, said that he would mobilise artisans, market women, civil servants, traders, youths and other groups for the party to ensure that LP takes over the reigns of power at the LG, state and federal come 2027 general elections.
