The Osun Governor’s visit came hours after he held a closed-door meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa.
Adeleke arrived at the Villa around 5:20–5:25 p.m. in traditional attire, in company with the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, and several Osun State officials, including his campaign director-general and chief of staff.
Governor Adeleke, during the meeting, presented his Certificate of Return, expressing gratitude for the conduct of the August 15 governorship election.
Adeleke, who contested on the platform of the Accord Party, was declared the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission after securing 511,067 votes.
He defeated the All Progressives Congress candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who polled 444,815 votes.
The governor won in 19 of the Osun’s 30 local government areas.
Speaking briefly with State House correspondents after meeting with the President, Adeleke commended Tinubu for allowing the election to be conducted without any interference.
He said his visit was primarily to thank Tinubu, whom he described as the “father of the nation”, for respecting the democratic process.
The Osun Governor said, “Yeah, that is why I’m here to thank Mr. President, the father of the nation, because he fought for this democracy.
“That is why he allowed free and fair election, and that is the result. That is why I’m here, to say thank you to ensure that democracy lives in Nigeria.”
