Ex-Kano deputy gov dumps ADC four weeks after defection

A former deputy governor of Kano State, Aminu Gwarzo, has resigned from the African Democratic Congress, four weeks after defecting to the party from the New Nigeria Peoples Party.

Gwarzo had joined the ADC on April 5 at a ceremony in Gwarzo Local Government Area, where he was formally presented with his membership card.

His defection came shortly after that of former Kano State governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, who moved to the party on March 30.

But recent shifts within the party appear to have altered the political equation.

On Sunday, Kwankwaso and former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, announced their exit from the ADC to join the Nigeria Democratic Congress, citing “wide-ranging consultations” and concerns about the party’s future direction.

In a resignation letter dated May 1 and addressed to the ADC ward chairman in Gwarzo LGA, Gwarzo said his decision followed extensive consultations with political associates and supporters across the state.

“Recent political developments and the evolving political landscape have made it necessary for me to review my membership in the interest of the people and the future of our state and the nation,” he said.

He added that his action was driven by broader considerations about governance and political direction.

“My decision is informed by patriotic consideration and the need to pursue a political path that aligns with my vision for good governance, democratic values, and sustainable development of our dear state.”

The former deputy governor, widely regarded as a close ally of Kwankwaso, did not disclose his next political move.

He, however, expressed appreciation to the ADC leadership and members for their support during his brief stay in the party.

“I remain grateful for the opportunity accorded me on the platform of the party. Please accept my highest regards and best wishes,” he said.
