Former Kano State governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, on Tuesday, publicly recognised Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II as the Emir of Kano and Chairman of the Kano State Council of Chiefs.
Ganduje acknowledged Sanusi during the swearing-in ceremony of the new Deputy Governor of Kano, Murtala Sule Garo, at the Government House, Kano.
Delivering his address, the former governor greeted Sanusi and addressed him by his full traditional title, a gesture that drew loud applause from dignitaries and attendees at the event.
This is first time Ganduje would openly recognise Sanusi in that capacity since their well-publicised fallout.
In 2020, while serving as governor, Ganduje had deposed Sanusi as Emir of Kano.
But Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf reinstated Sanusi, removing Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero whom Ganduje replaced Sanusi with.
But Ado Bayero refused to relinquish his position, with insinuation that he had the backing of Ganduje and the Federal Government.
Things took a new turn when Governor Yusuf defected to APC months ago.
Sanusi was allowed to hold Sallah Durbar as against the past when the police invited him over violence that broke out during Durbar which they banned.
