Federal Government has launched a manhunt for foreign-based Nigerians sponsoring the ongoing #EndBadGovernance protests across the country.
Already, the Nigerian Immigration Services has placed some sponsors of the protest living outside the country on its watchlist.
NIS Comptroller-General, Kemi Nandap, disclosed this at the Defence Headquarters, Abuja, on Tuesday.
Nandap revealed that such sponsors who are currently in the Diaspora would be picked up by security agents immediately they step on the Nigerian soil.
The NIS boss opened up shortly after a strategic meeting convened by the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen Christopher Musa.
Earlier, the CDS Defence and heads of other intelligence agencies as well as other heads of para-military agencies, had held a closed-door meeting to deliberate on how to implement the crackdown order issued by President Bola Tinubu.
Nandap, while speaking with newsmen after the meeting, said, “We have Diaspora sponsors, they are on our watchlist. They are watchlisted, any attempt they make to come into the country, we’ll be notified and they will be picked up and handed to the appropriate authority.”
The NIS boss also disclosed that the Service, in response to the protests, had deployed more officers to the country’s land borders and airports to ensure effective manning of Nigeria’s entry and exit points.
She added that the NIS had also stepped up surveillance to prevent foreign intervention in the country.
Director-General Department of State Services, Yusuf Bichi, on his part, said the secret police had uncovered some sponsors. He however declined giving further information.
Bichi, who was represented at the meeting by the DSS’ spokesman, Peter Afunanya, also disclosed that some bank accounts had already been blocked.
Afunanya added that some of the persons operating such accounts lived abroad.
He further disclosed that such foreign-based sponsors were already being monitored.
