Residents of Nyanya/Karu were in jubilant celebration during the festive period commending minister Nyesom Wike for the restoration of potable water to the areas.
The satellite towns of Nyanya Karu have been without water since last October when there was pipeline distruption conveying water to the areas.
The acting General Manager of the agency, Daniel Salka Audu had reassured the residents that the board would do everything in its power to rectify the damage
The Honourable Minister, in his determination to ensure that water is made available to the FCT residents, engaged a contractor to repair the damaged three kilometer stretch of the pipeline.
Last week , the water board announced to its customer in Karu/Nyanya that water would be released to the areas.
On Saturday, water was released in which the general manager advised the residents to use and wash their tanks which hitherto had muddy water.
On Monday another batch was released to enable total cleansing of the customers’ tanks.
Meanwhile, the GM has implored residents to ensure they pay their bills as appropriate.
He said the board is determined to increase its internally generated revenue in line with the directive of the Minister of the FCT.
He said the FCT Water Board is providing one of the best potable water not only in Nigeria but in the sub region.
He further reminded customers that it takes the Administration huge sums of money to achieve this.
He also called on the Customers to desist from giving the staff money with the claim to helping them pay.
Similarly, he warned staff from doing same and has vowed that any staff caught would be dealt with accordingly; this he said would deter staff from engaging in acts of corruption .
The GM therefore advised the customers to make use of its portal or go to the bank to offset their bills as no staff is allowed to collect cash from its customers.
He said that he will pursue with vigour the mandate of the agency which has the sole responsibility of providing safe, adequate and affordable water supply in accordance with World Health Organization and Nigerian drinking water quality standards to residents of FCT.
Daniel Salka further added that the Board is desirous to improve service delivery in its supply coverage to FCT but this can only happen with the co-operation of its customers.
He decried the situation where some residents engage in illegal connection thereby reducing the pressure of water and subsequently affecting supply to the residents.
He reminded both the Staff and customers that the Board has an Act, the FCT Water Board Establishment Act(2017), which criminalizes illegal connections, diversions, tempering with Water Meters among others and which can lead to fines and or imprisonment as may be determined by the FCT High Court.
End.
