Umar Faruk, Gusau
The Emir of Moriki in Zamfara State, Alhaji Bashar Ismail Ari, has urged the National Union of Transport Workers to review transport fares in the country.
Addressing a gathering during the Sallah celebration at Moriki, the monarch expressed concern over the hike in transport fares.
He observed that since the fares escalated after petroleum subsidy was removed, motorists now began to charge passengers exorbitant fares.
“This further deteriorated the hardship already being faced by the people, as the prices of commodities continue to go up under the covers of transport fares”, he added.
The Emir emphasised the need for the NURTW to reduce the transport fare since the PMS price has been reduced.
The monarch used the occasion to call on the people of the emirate to be more united and help one another, especially at this critical time of economic hardship and insecurity facing country.
He admonished that lt is now imperative for people to inculcate the culture of assisting one another, especially the less privileged among them, as this would further spread love and peace among the society.
Ari emphasised the need for continued prayers for the State and the country in general for peace and tranquility.
