Big Brother Naija Lockdown winner Laycon has revealed that his victory on the reality show had a life-changing impact on his family, saying it helped save his mother’s life.
Speaking on his journey in an interview on the Echo Room podcast monitored by PUNCH Online on Tuesday, Laycon reflected on the struggles his family faced before his rise to fame and how the financial and emotional opportunities that came with his win made a critical difference.
“Winning BBNaija saved my mother’s life,” he said, explaining that the exposure and rewards from the show enabled him to access support at a crucial time.
He noted that before the show, circumstances were difficult, but the outcome of the competition changed his family’s situation significantly.
The artiste added that the experience gave him not just fame, but also a sense of responsibility and perspective about life beyond entertainment.
Laycon, who has since pursued music, writing, and other creative ventures, said his journey after reality TV has been shaped by both gratitude and the pressure of public expectations.
He continues to reflect on how sudden fame altered his personal and professional path, while maintaining that the BBNaija platform ultimately transformed his life and that of his family.
The rapper and reality TV star said the sudden fame impacted his personal expression and sense of direction.
“I lost my inner voice after BBNaija win,” he said, reflecting on the pressure that followed his rise to fame.
Laycon also explained that his move into acting and filmmaking was largely driven by opportunities that came with visibility from the reality show, rather than prior industry experience.
He said movie producers often approached him because of his popularity rather than his acting background.
“They told me how I did great in the house and wanted me on their projects,” he said.
However, he noted that he was careful in evaluating such offers, questioning the motivation behind them.
“You haven’t seen me act, so I don’t think it’s because of my acting talent. I think it’s because it’s me, and you want your movie to do numbers,” he said.
Laycon added that he eventually explored other creative areas, including scriptwriting and further studies, as he tried to balance music, film, and education.
He said public opinion often varies depending on his career choices.
“Everybody would always have their opinion as to why people do what they do,” he said.
