US President Donald Trump, on Wednesday ordered the withdrawal of the United States from 66 global organisations.
US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, disclosed this in a statement.
Rubio said the decision was taken in furtherance of Executive Order 14199, following an administration-wide review of international organisations receiving US participation or funding.
Trump concluded that many of the institutions are redundant, mismanaged, unnecessary, or actively working against US interests.
The US President said others had become platforms for ideological agendas that undermine national sovereignty and divert American resources with little tangible benefits.
