Olu Osikoya, Abeokuta:
The Remo people of Ogun State say they are resolute in their demand for the creation of a Remo State out of the old Ijebu Province.
Chairman of the Remo Committee on State Creation, Kola Oyefeso, declared at a press conference on Monday in Sagamu, Ogun State, that Remoland is clear on its demand for a state without compromising its identity.
Barely three weeks after the Ijebuland representatives of the Old Ijebu Province held a press conference at the private residence of the Awujale, the Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, advocating for an Ijebu state carved out of the old Ijebu Province with its capital in Ijebu Ode without the involvement of Remoland, the Remoland Paramount Ruler, the Akarigbo of Remoland, Oba Babatunde Adewale Ajayi, called a similar press conference at his palace in Sagamu, Ogun State.
He insisted that they are also committed to the creation of a Remo state with its capital in Sagamu.
The Senator representing Ogun East and former governor of Ogun State, Gbenga Daniel, who represents both zones in the Senate, responded to questions from journalists by appealing for unity and peace between them.
The bone of contention between the two zones is the nomenclature of the state and the site of the state capital.
The press conference was attended by all traditional rulers, professionals and other stakeholders of Remoland.
