…enacts law to clean up state
Kano State House of Assembly, on Monday, enacted a law imposing a fine of N25,000 on anyone caught spitting, urinating, defecating or dumping waste on streets and under bridges in Kano.
This follows the law passed by the Assembly, which empowers the authority responsible for beautifying the city of Kano and managing recreational areas to impose the fine.
Majority Leader of the Assembly, Lawan Hussaini Dala, told newsmen after the plenary that it had become imperative for the government to take steps to clean up Kano in order to place the state on the same page with other cities across the world in terms of cleanliness and development.
Dala said in addition to the N25,000 fine, there are other penalties outlined in the law that will be used to penalise anyone found guilty of these offences.
The Assembly also conducted a second reading of a bill to amend the Kano Waste Management and Environmental Sanitation Authority Act, aimed at establishing an Assistant to the Governor.
