Cross River State Commissioner for Power, Dr Eka Williams, has died in shocking circumstances, as he reportedly slumped and died shortly afterwards in Abuja.
It was gathered that his sudden death has thrown his family, friends and members of his native Akparabong community in Ikom Local Government Area into deep mourning.
Williams is the second serving commissioner to die under the administration of Governor Bassey Otu.
Recall that in 2025, the Commissioner for Tourism, Abubakar Ewa, died.
A Calabar-based radio station, Hit FM, reported on Sunday that Williams’ family had already confirmed his death.
It was learnt that Williams collapsed and died while receiving treatment in a hospital in Abuja.
The news of his death jolted those close to him, as he was said to have been very active a few days to his sudden demise.
A close friend of his, who pleaded anonymity, said Williams was with them during Governor Bassey Otu’s recent visit to Ikom.
He added that the governor later invited Williams to his residence for an assessment meeting at the end of the visit.
Williams’ brother, who confirmed his death, Nkang Williams, expressed shock over his untimely demise.
“I am still struggling to accept that my brother, who was recently with my family, has suddenly become a memory,” Nkang said.
According to him, despite the family’s grief, they will continue to celebrate Williams’ life.
He described his late brother as a man who touched lives, shared knowledge and built lasting relationships.
“His name will not simply be forgotten because he died; he will be remembered because he lived a worthy life. That is what matters,” he said.
