From Khalid Idris Doya, Bauchi
Senator Shehu Buba Umar, chairman of the Senate Committee on Security and Intelligence, has emphasized the importance of community and stakeholder collaboration to address rising insecurity in Duguri-Gwana District, Alkaleri local government area of Bauchi state.
The senator, who represents Bauchi South Senatorial District, made this statement yesterday during a condolence visit to the families of over 10 victims—comprising hunters and civilians—who were brutally killed by bandits in Garin Mansur village.
During his visit, Senator Buba toured the homes of the deceased and paid courtesy visits to the District Head of Duguri, as well as the village heads of Alkaleri, Garin Mansur, and Gwana.
“When the incident occurred, I was out of the country. Now that I am back, I came straight to sympathize with the affected families. Bauchi State is known for its peaceful nature, but some criminal elements are attempting to disrupt that peace especially in Alkaleri.
“We must collectively resist such threats. This can only be achieved through timely information-sharing with community leaders and security agencies,” he added.
Senator Buba pledged to work closely with the Bauchi State Government, security agencies, youth, and local communities to find a lasting solution to the worsening security situation.
He stressed that intelligence sharing is crucial to curbing insecurity across the state.
In a gesture of solidarity and support, Senator Buba donated Ten Million Naira to the bereaved families to help ease their hardship.
He was accompanied by Hon. Kabiru Y. Makama (AKY Makama), member of the House of Representatives for Alkaleri/Kirfi Federal Constituency.
Condemning the attack, the senator described it as a cowardly act that undermines the security and stability of the region. He called for enhanced security measures to safeguard lives and property.
It could be recall on May 4, 2025, a combined team of professional hunters from Duguri and Gwana Districts, on routine patrol along the Duguri-Mansur-Dajin Mada forest axis (bordering Bauchi and Plateau States), were ambushed by armed bandits.
