Consensus governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Ogun State, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, recorded a landslide victory in Thursday’s primary election in the state.
Adeola, who is also the incumbent senator representing Ogun West, Senator Solomon Olamilekan garnered 304,055 votes to completely rout his only opponent, Abayomi Hunye, who got zero votes.
Despite Senator Adeola’s earlier adoption as the Ogun APC consensus governorship candidate, a former commissioner, Abayomi Hunye, who later picked the APC forms, eventually forced the party to hold direct primary.
However, with this result, Senator Adeola, earlier picked as the consensus governorship candidate by the vast majority of the APC aspirants and leaders, including incumbent Governor Dapo Abiodun, has effectively emerged as the party’s candidate for the 2027 gubernatorial election in the state.
Commenting on his victory after the results of party primary was announced, Senator Adeola said, “To the Glory of God, I emerged as the Governorship Candidate of APC for the Ogun 2027 election after a direct primary vote of 304,055 against my opponent’s zero score.”
Senator Adeola celebrated his victory at alongside Governor Dapo Abiodun Ogun; Deputy Governor Noimot Salako-Oyedele; Ogun State APC Chairman, Alhaji Yemi Sanusi; and Mr Wale Owuh among other party chieftains.
Speaking earlier on the conduct of the APC primary election, the lawmaker, who took part in the primary held across the state, said the exercise was peaceful and demonstrated the unity and cohesion within the APC in Ogun State.
He further noted that the turnout of party members during the direct primary exercise is a strong indication that the party remains formidable and poised to achieve landslide victories at the 2027 general poll.
The senator who polled 3,023 votes at the Pahayi Ilaro Ward 2, later monitored the exercise in Ilaro Ward 2 and Sabo Ward 3, respectively.
