Rivers State Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd.), has requested a House of Representatives Ad-Hoc Committee to reschedule the interactive session slated for Thursday.
On Wednesday, the committee overseeing the emergency rule in Rivers had invited Ibas to appear before it on Thursday (today).
On Tuesday, Speaker Abbas Tajudeen inaugurated the 21-member committee chaired by the House Leader, Prof Julius Ihonvbere.
The committee was constituted by the House of Representatives following the resolution of the National Assembly approving the Presidential Proclamation of a State of Emergency in Rivers State.
Last month, President Bola Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State, citing incessant political instability and recent security threats, including pipeline explosions.
Tinubu suspended Governor Fubara, Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu, and all members of the House of Assembly for six months, describing the decision as “inevitably compelling” based on security reports.
Tinubu then appointed Vice Admiral Ibas as sole administrator to oversee the state’s affairs pending resolution of the crisis — a decision that has sparked widespread debate across the country.
After his appointment, Ibas suspended all political officeholders appointed by Fubara.
Ibas was expected to address the lawmakers on governance in the state.
But in a statement issued on Thursday, spokesperson of the House, Akin Rotimi, said Ibas requested a rescheduling of the meeting.
He said a new date for the session would be announced in the coming days.
