The lawmaker representing Darazo-Ganjuwa federal constituency, Hon. Mansur Manu Soro, has delivered a total of 300 luminous solar street lights across communities in his constituency as part of his commitment to improving access to electricity.
Hon. Soro explained that the initiative is aimed at delivering 400 solar street light units before the end of 2025, in fulfillment of his promise to enhance security, economic activities, and social life in rural areas.
Speaking to journalists on Sunday following the completion of the 3rd batch of the project, which involved the installation of 100 solar-powered street lights that covered Zara, Yali, Gabciyari, Tauya, Papa, Wahu, and Kariya districts.
According to him, the project was executed in phases to ensure equitable distribution across the constituency. He noted that phase one saw the installation of 100 units in Soro, while phase two delivered 50 units each to Sade and Miya.
“We set a target of providing 400 solar street lights by 2025. Phases 1 and 2 covered Soro, Sade, and Miya, while the 3rd batch has just concluded. By the grace of God, Phase 4 will reach the remaining areas that are yet to benefit,” he said.
Providing a breakdown of the installations under the just-concluded 3rd batch, Hon. Soro stated that Zara received 20 units, Yali 10, Gabciyari 20, Tauya 15, Papa 15, Wahu 10, and Kariya 10.
He further cited World Bank statistics indicating that as of 2023, about 61 percent of Nigerians, approximately 86.8 million people, lack access to electricity, making Nigeria the country with the highest number of people without power globally.
Hon. Soro urged community members to protect and properly maintain the installed facilities to ensure their sustainability and continued benefit.
“We call on our communities to take ownership of these projects and safeguard them for the collective good of our people,” he added.
The lawmaker also assured constituents that the 4th batch of the project is already in the pipeline and will be completed before the end of the year.
