Police in Benue have arrested two suspects in connection with the killing of a National Youth Service Corps member, Benjamin Msughaondo Une.
The corps member was reportedly beaten to death by members of a community vigilante group in Buruku Local Government Area of Benue State after he was allegedly mistaken for a motorcycle thief.
State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Edet Udeme, in a telephone interview with journalists on Friday in Makurdi, confirmed the arrest of the suspects.
Udeme said the incident occurred between 11pm and midnight on Sunday at Major Settlement near the Buruku Local Government Secretariat, where the deceased was reportedly attacked by a group of hoodlums who accused him of stealing a motorcycle.
The PPRO said preliminary investigations revealed that the allegation was false, as documents showed that the motorcycle belonged to the deceased.
She identified the two suspects arrested in connection with the crime as Terkimbi Abumswende and Joshua Adagim, while another suspect is still at large.
Edet added that efforts were ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect, assuring that a thorough investigation would be conducted to ensure all those involved are brought to justice.
