Parents and guardians of students of the Federal Government Girls’ College, Ezzamgbo, Ebonyi State, were left stranded on Sunday following the sudden shutdown of the school and other Unity Schools over an industrial action by workers.

The Academic Staff Union of Colleges and other workers under the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria , FGGC Ezzamgbo chapter in a public notice directed parents and guardians to keep their children and wards at home until further notice.

In a notice issued to parents on Sunday, the union announced that there would be no resumption of academic activities at the college this September 2026 pending further clarification and official directives.

The notice, signed by the Unit Chairman of ASCSN, FGGC Ezzamgbo, Dr Rachael Benson-Ogbu, urged parents to remain calm and avoid making unnecessary trips to the school.

The development reportedly left many parents and guardians confused, especially those who had already concluded arrangements to return their children and wards to school for the new academic session.

The union, however, assured parents that further information would be communicated as soon as the situation becomes clearer.

The notice read: “No resumption till further notice. ASCSN, FGGC Ezzamgbo advise all parents to remain calm, keep your wards with you at home and avoid making unnecessary trips to the school on Sunday, 13th September 2026, pending further clarification and official directives.”

As of the time of filing this report, parents and guardians were awaiting further directives from the union, school management and relevant Federal Government authorities on when academic activities would resume at FGGC Ezzamgbo and other affected Unity Schools.

The Union leaders defiled Federal Government directives on Unity Schools Resumption, Shut down Colleges In Ebonyi leaving parents and students confused on which directive to abide by.
