The Ogun State Chapter of Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) has expressed deep sadness over the passing of one of the Chapter’s Fellows and foremost traditional ruler, the Towulade of Akinale, Oba (Dr) Olufemi Ogunleye, who joined his ancestors on Wednesday, 19th June, 2024 at the age of 79.

The professional body said it received the news of the passage of the monarch with a heavy heart and commiserated with the wife of the deceased, Olori Olanike Ogunleye, and the entire family members.

This was contained in a condolence message issued and signed by Mrs Oluwaseun Boye and Mr Kunle Olayeni, the Chairman and Secretary of the Chapter respectively.

The statement partly read, “On behalf of the Executive and members of Ogun State Chapter, Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), we write to extend our deepest condolences and heartfelt sympathy to the entire family of Oba Ogunleye at this difficult time. We are deeply saddened that death has robbed our Chapter of one of its finest and accomplished members.

“Until he departed, Kabiyesi was a Fellow of the NIPR. He was an iconic figure and veteran public relations professional who rose to prominence as Public Relations Manager of the Nigeria Airways. He made significant and indelible contributions right from his career days to when he ascended the throne of his forebears and, even, up to the point that he eventually breathed his last.

“Oba Olufemi Ogunleye was a charismatic leader who served his people with absolute commitment, impressive dignity and exemplary leadership. He was a strong pillar of support for Ogun NIPR, who demonstrated unparalleled enthusiasm towards all activities and invested his time and resources to positively project Public Relations practice.

“We wish to place on record that Oba Ogunleye actively participated in the recent Nigerian Public Relations Week (NPRW), a top-notch global event hosted in Abeokuta. Shortly after, he left the country to the United Kingdom for medical treatment. Also, during the just concluded NIPR Diamond Anniversary Walk which featured tree planting campaign, he was very much with us in spirit as he constantly communicated with the Chapter leadership.

“It was, therefore, shocking to learn of his demise at a time we all earnestly look forward to joining him in celebrating his 80th birthday and equally wish to continually tap from his wealth of experience. With courage and principle, Kabiyesi gave his all and earned the admiration of all. It is painful that he departed when his service was mostly needed for peaceful co-existence among Nigerians.

“However, we take solace in the fact that the late Oba Olufemi Ogunleye lived a fulfilled and impactful life and as well left good legacies. His contributions to our profession will never be forgotten; he will be sorely missed not only by his subjects but also the generality of Nigerians.

“As a towering figure in our Chapter, we have opened a Condolence Register at our Secretariat for members and friends of public relations practice to offer their condolences.

“At this trying period, our thoughts and prayers are with the Oba Olufemi Ogunleye family. We pray the Almighty God to bless his soul with eternal repose and grant his loved ones the fortitude to bear this painful passage.”
