…accuses APC of creating false narrative to cover up Yayi’s indigeneship controversy
Following claims that the name of the Peoples Democratic Party’s governorship candidate for Ogun State in the 2027 election, Hon Ladi Adebutu is not on the party’s register submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission, the party has strongly refuted claims questioning his eligibility for next year’s election.
The Ogun State PDP described claims of the omission of Adebutu’s name from the official membership register of the Party as a baseless fabrication orchestrated by political detractors.
Reacting to reports being circulated by a group, Ogun Democratic Accountability Forum (ODAF) on the matter, PDP State Publicity Secretary, Kayode Adebayo, insisted that Adebutu remained a fully registered, financial and undisputed leader of the party in Ogun State.
PDP also affirmed that all legal and statutory requirements under the Electoral Act regarding party registration and submission of membership registers to INEC were strictly satisfied within the stipulated deadlines.
The opposition party dismissed the narrative claiming that Adebutu is disqualified as a sponsored smear campaign designed by the ruling All Progressives Congress and its proxy groups to create artificial panic among the electorate and distract from key political vulnerabilities ahead of the election.
The PDP further stated that the primary motivation behind the false narrative is to cover up the unresolved questions surrounding the indigeneship of the APC governorship candidate, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi.
The party, therefore, urged INEC to ignore pressure from political proxies, reassuring supporters across Ogun State that Adebutu’s nomination process remained intact and that he remained fully eligible to contest the 2027 governorship race.
