A female officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps was on Saturday crushed to death after she was struck by one of the corps’ operational vehicles during a simulation exercise in Abuja.

The incident occurred during what officials described as a routine drill.
A video circulating on social media shows the moment the officer was knocked down and run over by a patrol vehicle that was making a turn as part of the coordinated exercise.
In the footage, the vehicle is seen turning before hitting the officer, who fell beneath it.
The driver eventually brought the vehicle to a halt as colleagues and bystanders rushed to the scene.
Some personnel were seen lifting the vehicle in an attempt to free her before emergency responders arrived and evacuated her.
Confirming the incident, NSCDC spokesperson, Afolabi Babawale, said the corps had lost one of its personnel.
“It is true we lost a personnel during the simulation exercise. Our senior officers are on their way to the residence of the deceased to pay our condolences,” Babawale said.
He added that the corps had commenced internal procedures in response to the incident and would provide further details.
The identity of the deceased officer had not been officially disclosed as of the time of filing this report.
