By Gambo Jagindi

The Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Professor Ahmed Abubakar Audi, mni, OFR, has commiserated with the Federal Capital Territory Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, over the death of its immediate past Chairman, Comrade Patrick Osadebamwen.

In a separate development, the CG also flagged off a two-day capacity-building workshop for the NSCDC Female Special Force, FSF, aimed at strengthening operational efficiency and intelligence-driven policing across the country.

CG Salutes Media Partnership
Describing the late Osadebamwen as a committed professional, Prof. Audi said the deceased made invaluable contributions to journalism and national development.

“On behalf of the officers and men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, I extend our heartfelt condolences to the NUJ FCT Council. This is a painful loss to the union, to the media industry, and to Nigeria,” he said.

He urged the family, friends and colleagues of the deceased to find solace in God, praying for the repose of his soul and strength for those he left behind.

In a gesture of solidarity, the Corps’ National Public Relations Officer, Assistant Commandant of Corps Babawale Afolabi, ANIPR, was at the NUJ Secretariat in Utako to sign the condolence register on behalf of the management.

Stakeholders have continued to salute the CG for fostering a cordial working relationship between the NSCDC and the media, noting that his open-door policy and respect for journalists have improved public trust and visibility of the Corps’ operations.

NSCDC Invests in Female Special Force Capacity
At the flag-off of the FSF workshop in Abuja, Prof. Audi said the training was designed to equip State Commanders and selected officers with operational deliverables and evidence-based research techniques.

He stressed that sustainable peace and national security cannot be achieved without the active involvement of women, adding that the initiative aligns with UN Security Council Resolution 1325 and the NSCDC Gender Policy.

“Women are not merely beneficiaries of security. They are critical actors in conflict prevention, peacebuilding, intelligence gathering, and protection of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure,” the CG declared.

He reassured the Female Special Force of management’s unwavering institutional support.

In her remarks, the National Commander of the FSF, Assistant Commandant of Corps ACC Imonikhe Oluwakemi, said the unit remains committed to safeguarding CNAI and integrating data-driven intelligence into field operations.

Also speaking, the Head of the Critical Thinking, Research, and Innovation Unit, CTRIU, ACC Dr. Ogunshola Folashade, noted that contemporary security challenges demand critical thinking, technology, and strategic intelligence in addition to tactical strength.

The event drew goodwill messages from representatives of the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Immigration Service, and the Federal Fire Service.

Performance awards were later presented to State Commanders from Benue, Kebbi, Edo, and Bayelsa for outstanding service delivery.
