Former National and West African light-heavyweight champion, Segun ‘Success’ Olanrewaju, on Saturday, collapsed and died during a boxing match in Ghana.
The incident occurred when Olanrewaju who was facing Ghanaian boxer, Jon Mbanugu at Fight Night 15 of the Ghana Professional Boxing League at Bukom Boxing Arena, collapsed in the ring and became unconscious.
It was learnt that the Nigerian boxer was leading on points before the tragic incident occurred.
A viral video circulating on social media shows him collapsing during the match.
The tragic incident has thrown the boxing community into mourning.
Olanrewaju, a respected figure in Nigerian boxing, had held both National and West African light-heavyweight titles.
The late boxer’s contributions to the sport in Nigeria and across West Africa have been widely acknowledged, as tributes for him continue to pour in from his colleagues and fans.
