Hon. Thomas Victor Onwubiko, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for the Amuwo Odofin Constituency 2 in the Lagos State House of Assembly, has congratulated Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, on his victory in the August 15, 2026 governorship election.
Onwubiko described Adeleke’s re-election as a significant victory for democracy and an indication that Nigerian voters are increasingly determined to exercise their constitutional power to choose their leaders.
In a congratulatory message issued after the declaration of the election result, Onwubiko said Adeleke’s victory demonstrated the importance of grassroots connection, responsive leadership and the ability of political candidates to earn the confidence of the electorate.
He commended the people of Osun State for turning out to participate in the election, describing their decision as an important expression of democratic choice.
According to him, the outcome of the election should serve as a reminder to political leaders that electoral mandates ultimately belong to the people and must be earned through service, accountability and genuine engagement with citizens.
Onwubiko said Adeleke’s victory was particularly significant because of the political developments surrounding the election and the intense competition among the major parties.
He urged Governor Adeleke to see his re-election as a renewed responsibility to the people of Osun State and to rededicate himself to improving their welfare.
“On behalf of my supporters, political associates and the good people of Amuwo Odofin Constituency 2, I warmly congratulate Governor Ademola Adeleke on his victory at the Osun governorship election.
“This victory is a testament to the power of the people and their determination to choose the leadership they desire. It is also a reminder that democracy works when citizens are given the opportunity to freely express their will through the ballot,” he said.
The NDC candidate also praised the governor for what he described as his strong connection with ordinary people, noting that leaders who remain accessible and responsive to their constituents are more likely to earn the confidence of voters.
Onwubiko stressed that the Osun election should not merely be viewed as a contest between political parties but as an opportunity for Nigerians to reaffirm the principle that political power belongs to the people.
He called on all political actors to accept the outcome of the election peacefully and encouraged them to place the interests of the electorate above partisan considerations.
He further urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies and other electoral stakeholders to continue strengthening Nigeria’s democratic institutions ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to him, the lessons from Osun should encourage Nigerians, particularly young people, to become more actively involved in the democratic process by registering to vote, participating in elections and protecting the integrity of their votes.
Onwubiko said the NDC remained committed to building a political system where competence, accountability, transparency and service to the people would take precedence over money politics and political intimidation.
He described the Osun outcome as an encouraging development for opposition politics in Nigeria, saying it demonstrated that voters could change political calculations when they were determined to make their voices heard.
He congratulated Adeleke once again and wished him a successful second term in office, urging him to remain focused on governance and the delivery of democratic dividends to the people of Osun State.
